Ortur 15 watt Laser Master. While this is listed as a 15 watt, that is the total power. The laser actually functions at a 4.5ish watt power, similar to my J Tech 4.2 Watt Laser. This laser is perfect for a beginner and expert. It's open frame allows it to be used almost anywhere! Ortur Laser Master is a portable laser engraving machine, which is easy to install and safe to operate. It has a built-in G-sensor. When the machine tilts, it will automatically stop laser work and protect against laser damage. Support for GRBL open source software for operating fun. It supports dynamic control laser module, and PWM power regulation, low brightness regulation. Ortur has released a firmware update to address issues that are in the first shipped models. This is a video bout installing it and the new results. Here is a link to the issue and firmware link along with updating instructions. Here is the Lightburn forum discussing it HERE. Overall, I've been super impressed with how this little engraver performs. Although they market it as a 15 watt laser, that's actually the total power that the unit draws. The laser beam is actually around a 4.5 watt laser. While that's definitely less than advertised, it's still a very capable laser for engraving. If you are expecting to cut wood, don't bother. It will take WAY to long. Check out my 60w co2 laser review if your needing something to cut but expect a WAY bigger price tag! One awesome feature is how there isn't a base to the laser. It allows you to place the laser on top of anything and engrave. If your friend has a kitchen table and wants their initials on it, just bring it over, set it on top and laser! It comes with 4 l clips that would even let you screw it to a wall or upside down! One downside is that there is absolutely no cover for the laser. Walk into the room while its on without protective glasses? Kiss your eyes goodbye if you look that way. Check out the video below I did with RowdyRoman and setting it up and use it!

Thanks for sharing this detailed video, Myers Woodshop. I had doubts related to the power initially, thanks for clarifying this at the beginning of the video itself. The Laser engraver is brilliant though the settings take time. The engraving process was remarkable, and the speed was amazing. I am completely impressed by the final result on the wood.

Yes Peter - I have the problem resolved. After some consultation with Ortur, they determined that the board had gone bad. They sent me out a new one, and, all is good now.

The link above for the firmware is for the Laser Master 2, NOT the Laser Master 1.

Does the lazer work on glass?, If so do you have a sample lettering of how it looks on glass?

Hi when my Ortur laser stops to cool, when it restarts the laser does fire back up. It continues to follow the raster pattern but without the laser. Has anyone else had this problem and how did they resolve it?

Yeah, I have the same problem. I've just been paying attention to it when it cools, and reset it as soon as it starts again. Not a good solution. sorry.

How do you compare the Ortur to the jtech you have?

I am having trouble focusing the laser. I am adjustingthe lense and stated in the manual to try to make the laser dot as small as possible, but it only gets narrower on the sides, not the top and bottom, so it looks like a tiny verticle line instead of a dot. anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

Joseph - That is due to the cheap lens in the Laser module. For most engraving it is fine. However, if you are looking for super detail in your engravings, then you will need to get a better lens or a Laser Module with a better lens.

These are DIODE lasers. The diode is rectangular in shape. So a "dot" is not possible. Focus to as small as possible on as low of power as needed to see it. It will be a very small rectangle.
