How To Clamp Material To Your Wasteboard.  (Including The New L Shaped Clamp Bracket File)

1/16/2019

I decided to create another clamping option to assist in holding down material.  I came up with these L shaped brackets.  One has 5 holes that will directly fit my threaded wasteboard file, and the other has slots so you can adjust the fit anyway you'd need to according to what the material needs (I'm imagining its good for round stock).   This will work on any branded CNC, but are built specifically for my wasteboard and the Shapeoko 3.  Carbide Create is required to open the file, but it will create g code for use on any g code sender (i.e. UGS, Carbide Motion, Easel)

Consider buying the file from my Etsy shop.  It helps support what i do so I can create more free content :)
The Etsy listing also includes the .svg file for use in most CAD programs.

I've also created a short video to help show some of the clamping options you have with your CNC.  This includes the new L shaped clamp brackets.

■ 1/4 - 20 hex bolts
■ 1/4 - 20 washers
■ 1/4 - 20 t nuts (you need 3 packs)
■ Double Sided Tape
■ Rockler Hold Down Clamp
■ Oops Clamp
■ Myers Woodshop Cam Clamps
■ Myers Woodshop Wasteboard

■ Cadex Braid Nailer
■ Shapeoko 3 XXL CNC Machine

There's so many options when it comes to holding material down securely to your CNC machine it can feel overwhelming.  In this video I'll walk you through a whole bunch of choices (and even some of my own creations) and how to use them effectively.

What spacing did you use between inserts? Thanks.

It opens in Carbide Create. It is a free program from Carbide 3d. It outputs straight gcode so depending on your machine it may work. Otherwise you can get the primary dimensions and re draw in Aspire / Vcarve.

the free version on here is the .c2d that opens in carbide create (the software that comes free with the shapeoko). I've uploaded the .svg to my etsy shop for use with other programs (like aspire).
the link above will take you to it.

The .cd2 files download to my Mac as txt files. Even if I remove the .txt they still don't open in Carbide Create. What could I be doing wrong?

I just tried on my Mac running High Sierra using Chrome and they download fine. Maybe try right clicking and 'save link as' and choosing the filetype.

Thanks for the clamps and the L Brackets, Just ran some on the XXL. I used 12mm BB ply for mine since I had lots of scraps laying around. Getting ready to do wasteboard and flatten it next. You have been a big help getting me going!

Tom, if you're disappointed it should only be at yourself. These work perfectly for everyone else as do all of Ben's other files. Maybe you should learn to use your machine or maybe hand tools are more your speed?

Ben. I bought your wasteboard and works perfectly. I just flattened mine and when I go to tighten my clamps down it pulls the wasteboard up in un even ways. Any solution for this? Thanks
